How to edit text in an image

To change text in an image, add the picture to the tool below and write the exact change in quotation marks, such as change "OPEN" to "CLOSED". Pick a model and send. The model aims to keep the original font, color and background, so compare the result with the before/after slider and proofread it before you download.

Real examples

Each before/after pair below is a single, unretouched GPT Image 2 run of the prompt under it. Copy a prompt and replace the quoted text with your own.

  • Fix a typo

When to use: a misspelled word on a banner, flyer or packaging mockup.

Flyer with the subtitle misspelled as Grand Oppening
    Before
The same flyer reading Grand Opening
    After

Fix the typo in the subtitle: change "Grand Oppening" to "Grand Opening", keep the same font and color.

  • Translate a sign

When to use: a storefront sign, menu board or wayfinding sign in another language.

Storefront with a brass sign reading Boulangerie
    Before
The same storefront with the sign reading Bakery
    After

Replace the storefront sign text "Boulangerie" with "Bakery", keep the same weathered brass lettering and dark background.

  • Change a price

When to use: a price badge or sale tag on a product image.

Product photo with a red price tag reading $49.99
    Before
The same product photo with the tag reading $39.99
    After

Change the price on the tag from "$49.99" to "$39.99", keep the bold white numbers, red tag and white border identical.

  • Change a date

When to use: a banner or slide for an event that happens again.

Conference banner dated October 15, 2025
    Before
The same banner dated November 20, 2026
    After

Update the event date at the bottom: replace "OCTOBER 15, 2025" with "NOVEMBER 20, 2026", keep the same clean sans-serif font and center alignment.

  • Restyle a heading

When to use: a new look for a headline while keeping its words.

Keep the title text "SUMMER SALE", but restyle the font into heavy 3D chrome lettering with subtle edge reflections.

Step by step

  1. Upload your image

Click the image area ("Choose image"), drag a file in, or paste it. The tool takes one JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 10 MB. You need an ImgPilot account to upload and edit.

  2. Quote the old and new text

In "What should change?", describe the change in plain words and put both the current text and the new text in quotation marks, for example: Change the sign text "OPEN" to "CLOSED", keep the same font and color. One change per edit gives the cleanest result.

  3. Pick a model

Choose a model from the picker next to the prompt: GPT Image 2 (the default), GPT Image 2.5 · Sunburst, GPT Image 2.5 · Flare, Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2 or Seedream 5.0 Pro. Models don't handle lettering equally: in one run each of the typo fix below, two models corrected it and Seedream 5.0 Pro left it unchanged. When the spelling comes out wrong, run the edit again with another model.

Flyer edited by GPT Image 2 to read Grand Opening
    GPT Image 2Typo fixed
The same flyer edited by Nano Banana Pro
    Nano Banana ProTypo fixed
The same flyer after Seedream 5.0 Pro, still misspelled
Seedream 5.0 ProStill reads Grand Oppening
  4. Check the cost and send

The "Edit text" button shows the credit cost before you send. Each run uses one model and costs credits, so to compare models, run the same prompt again with another one. For several reference images or up to three models side by side, use "Open in Chat to Image" under the button; it carries your image over.

  5. Compare before and after

When the edit finishes, the image area turns into a before/after slider. Drag it across the text to check spelling, letter shapes and the background around them. The result keeps the original framing and is generated at 1K, not at the size you uploaded.

  6. Download or keep editing

Click "Download" to save the image, or "Edit this result" to use it as the input for one more change, such as fixing a second word or changing a color.

If the result isn't right

  • The spelling is wrong or the letters are garbled. Put both the old and new text in quotation marks, keep the request short and change one thing at a time. Then run the same prompt with another model, such as GPT Image 2.5 · Sunburst or Nano Banana Pro.
  • The background, faces or objects changed too. Add "keep everything outside the text unchanged" to the prompt. If a result is close, click "Edit this result" and fix only what is left instead of starting over.
  • Curved or angled text comes out distorted. Strong perspective makes letters hard to place. Describe it in the prompt, for example "following the angle of the wall". You can also crop close to the sign in another app before uploading; the result will then show only that cropped area.
  • Accents or non-Latin scripts render incorrectly. Try Nano Banana 2 or Seedream 5.0 Pro. To add a second image with the right lettering or logo as a reference, click "Open in Chat to Image" and add it there.
  • Small print or long paragraphs are unreadable. Image models handle short titles, labels and prices best. For body copy or legal lines, use the tool for the artwork and add the long text afterwards in a layout editor.

Questions

Which model is best for editing text in images?

No single model wins on every text edit. Start with GPT Image 2, the default, then run the same prompt with one or two others, such as GPT Image 2.5 · Sunburst or Nano Banana 2. To see up to three models side by side, use "Open in Chat to Image".

How many credits does a text edit cost?

It depends on the model. The exact cost is shown on the "Edit text" button before you send, and new accounts get starter credits.

Do I need an account to change text in an image?

Yes. Sign in to upload an image and run edits.

Can I edit text on IDs, legal papers or trademarks?

No. That goes against ImgPilot's Terms of Service, which prohibit illegal use and infringing others' rights, including trademarks. Don't edit identity cards, certificates, financial documents or other people's trademarks.

Can it handle long paragraphs or handwriting?

It works best on short phrases such as signs, prices and titles. Dense paragraphs, small print and elaborate handwriting often come out misspelled or hard to read.

How do I check the edit against the original?

When the edit finishes, the image area becomes a before/after slider. Drag it across the text to compare spelling, letter shapes and the background with the original.
